West Seattle Hotels: The Grove or a Downtown Base?

Compare The Grove West Seattle Inn with a rental or downtown base, including parking, room choices, water taxi connections and a simple rain plan.

Start with The Grove West Seattle Inn if staying in West Seattle is the point of your trip. It makes sense for visiting family, spending time around the Alaska Junction or keeping a car at a hotel with included parking. If most of your short visit revolves around Pike Place Market and downtown attractions, choose a downtown base and visit West Seattle for a half-day instead.

The Grove is at 3512 SW Alaska Street, inland rather than on the beach. The hotel lists Alki Beach as three miles away—so don’t book it expecting a beachfront stay. Hotel location and area distances.

The Grove: what matters before booking

The practical draw is free on-site parking, continental breakfast and Wi-Fi; on-site laundry is also available. Breakfast runs from 7–10 a.m., with breads, juice, coffee and tea listed rather than a full cooked breakfast. The Grove’s amenities.

Choose the room category carefully:

  • For two people: Classic Single Queen or Grove King.
  • For a family or friends sharing: Grove Two Queens accommodates four. Classic Two Full Beds also accommodates four, but the beds are full-size rather than queen-size.
  • For cooking and laundry in your accommodation: The Grove Suite accommodates two and has a full kitchen, separate queen bedroom, washer and dryer, and a two-night minimum. Don’t assume every suite has a kitchen; several others have a wet bar with a microwave and mini-fridge. Room descriptions.

A few booking checks can change the decision. Check-in is 3 p.m., checkout is noon, and guests must be at least 21 to check in. The hotel’s policies also warn that its Wi-Fi bandwidth does not support heavy uploading, gaming or video streaming—important if you plan to work remotely. Read the cancellation terms attached to your particular rate, especially for prepaid offers. Hotel policies.

If step-free access matters, contact the hotel before reserving. It lists two accessible Classic Single Queen rooms, with transfer shower/bathtub facilities, and notes that some first-floor routes require traveling around the property to use ramps and hallways. Confirm that the bathroom setup and route to your room meet your needs. Accessibility details.

Can you stay here without a car?

Yes, if you’re comfortable building transit time into the day. RapidRide C connects the Alaska Junction with downtown Seattle and South Lake Union, making it the straightforward starting point for downtown travel. Check the stop and departure that suit your hotel address; don’t treat a scheduled bus ride as the whole door-to-door journey. Metro’s C Line schedule.

The scenic alternative takes more coordination: free Route 773 connects the Alaska Junction area with Seacrest Park, where the Water Taxi docks. The boat then travels to Pier 50 downtown in approximately 10–15 minutes. That crossing time excludes the shuttle, waiting and onward walk. The shuttle is free, but the boat has a separate fare. Route 773; West Seattle Water Taxi.

The current Water Taxi schedule covers October 10, 2026–April 9, 2027. Select your actual travel date and check both the boat and shuttle return before leaving; don’t assume a late dinner downtown will line up with a boat home. Keep a bus or rideshare backup.

One neighborhood outing, with a rain alternative

On a fair-weather day, make Alki Beach Park your anchor: a waterfront walk, lunch and a return to the hotel is enough. The park has a widened shoreline path and views across Puget Sound. Seattle Parks’ Alki guide.

If wind and rain make the beach unappealing, keep the day smaller: breakfast at the hotel, lunch at Easy Street Records and Cafe, 4559 California Avenue SW in the Alaska Junction, and short shopping stops between showers. Check the cafe’s current hours before heading over. Easy Street’s Seattle Met listing.

Save the waterfront for a clearer window. Our West Seattle half-day guide helps you choose between Alki, the Junction and the parks.
