Which Seattle Waterfront Hotel Fits Your Short Trip?
Compare Seattle Marriott Waterfront, The Edgewater and citizenM Pioneer Square by room views, pool access, ferry convenience and rainy-day plans.

Start with Seattle Marriott Waterfront for a waterfront sightseeing base with a pool; choose The Edgewater when an over-water room is the point of the stay. If ferry access matters more than a traditional waterfront-hotel stay, consider citizenM Seattle Pioneer Square—a nearby alternative, not an over-water property.
The important distinction is waterfront location versus the view from your booked room. A hotel name or a photograph of the bay does not guarantee that your room faces it.

Seattle Marriott Waterfront: for sightseeing and a pool
Seattle Marriott Waterfront is at 2100 Alaskan Way, near the northern part of the central waterfront. Its heated indoor/outdoor pool makes it the strongest fit among these three when you want a hotel-based break from sightseeing, particularly with children. The hotel also has on-site dining and valet parking. Hotel location and amenities
Book the view deliberately. Marriott lists standard king and two-queen rooms, partial-water-view rooms, water-view kings and water-view corner rooms and suites. Treat those as different purchases rather than assuming “Waterfront” means a full bay view. If a balcony matters, confirm it for the exact room category before paying. Room categories
A manageable first day here is Pike Place Market, lunch, then a waterfront stroll—with a return to the hotel instead of adding another cross-city attraction. For more options along that route, use our Waterfront Park guide.
Choose it if: you want the market-and-waterfront cluster plus a pool, or you need to compare two-queen rooms against suites.
The Edgewater: for an over-water stay
The Edgewater sits on Pier 67 at 2411 Alaskan Way. Choose it when you want the hotel room itself to be part of the Seattle experience, rather than simply somewhere near the sights. Hotel address · Pier location
Its over-water selection includes kings, rooms with two double beds, balcony kings and suites. The over-water king and double categories list approximately 350 square feet and gas fireplaces; balcony categories are separately identified. Over-water rooms
The Edgewater also sells city-view accommodation. If your reason for booking is watching Elliott Bay from your room, select an explicitly over-water category rather than relying on the property’s location. Accommodation overview
There is no on-site pool. That makes the Marriott a better starting point if swimming is a deciding factor, while The Edgewater suits a trip with room downtime and a waterfront meal built in. Hotel FAQ
Choose it if: the over-water setting, fireplace or a specifically booked balcony matters more to you than a pool.
citizenM Pioneer Square: for a ferry-focused, car-free base
At 60 Yesler Way, citizenM Seattle Pioneer Square is the southern alternative in this shortlist. Its bedrooms are designed for two adults with an XL king bed; downstairs, it has a communal living room and 24/7 canteenM food and drinks. The hotel lists nearby Pioneer Square light rail access and no on-site parking. Hotel details
This is a better fit for a solo traveler or pair prioritizing neighborhood access over a traditional waterfront-hotel stay. Don’t substitute it for a two-bed family room without checking occupancy and layout.
Its address places you closer to Colman Dock than the two northern hotels. Colman Dock is at Pier 52, 801 Alaskan Way, and serves Washington State Ferries to Bainbridge Island and Bremerton. It is not a cruise terminal. Seattle ferry terminal
For a ferry day, choose the outbound and return sailings before adding activities, and check current schedules and service alerts. WSF says walk-on passengers should be aboard at least five minutes before departure—not merely arriving at the terminal then. Allow additional time for the walk, tickets and boarding, and use our three-part ferry-day plan. WSF first-time rider guidance
Two checks before you pay
Check the terminal if you’re cruising. Pier 66, at 2225 Alaskan Way, is convenient to the Marriott and The Edgewater. Pier 91 is a separate terminal at Smith Cove; neither hotel’s central-waterfront location removes the need to plan that transfer. For Pier 91, the Port recommends rideshare, taxis or other transportation services. Confirm the pier in your cruise documents. Pier 66 · Pier 91
Compare the full stay cost. At the October 2026 check, The Edgewater listed a taxable $34 daily amenities fee per room and $66 overnight valet parking plus tax. Marriott listed $60 daily valet parking. Include applicable mandatory fees, parking, breakfast and cancellation terms in your comparison—not just the first nightly figure. Keep one waterfront day and one rain backup
Use Pike Place Market → Overlook Walk → waterfront as a compact sightseeing route. Overlook Walk connects the market and waterfront with pathways, steps and elevator access, including an accessible elevator at the southeast corner of the Aquarium’s Ocean Pavilion. It is an outdoor connection, not a sheltered passage. Overlook Walk visitor information
For heavier rain, make the Seattle Aquarium your anchor and shorten the outdoor walk. Buy a timed ticket ahead rather than depending on the walk-up line. Admission includes Pier 59, Pier 60 and the Ocean Pavilion, but the campus includes indoor and outdoor spaces, so keep your rain layer with you. Aquarium visit planning
If you don’t need a water-facing room, compare these options with our Seattle hotels for different short trips before deciding whether a view upgrade is worth the cost.
