One Ticket Covers the Underwater Dome and Ocean Pavilion

Regular daytime admission covers Pier 59, Pier 60—including the Underwater Dome—and the separate Ocean Pavilion; no extra ticket is required.

You need only one regular daytime ticket to visit the Seattle Aquarium’s full campus: Pier 59, Pier 60—including the Underwater Dome—and the separate Ocean Pavilion. Choose your date and entry time on the official Seattle Aquarium ticket page, then keep the ticket’s QR code available as you move between buildings.

The short answer: you only need one regular ticket

Standard daytime admission includes:

  • Pier 59
  • Pier 60, which contains the Underwater Dome
  • The Ocean Pavilion

The Underwater Dome and Ocean Pavilion are not two names for the same place. The Dome is an established exhibit in Pier 60. The Ocean Pavilion is the separate Aquarium building across the public plaza from Piers 59 and 60. Neither requires an additional regular-admission ticket.

The distinction can be easy to miss when photos use “Dome” without explaining the campus layout. For example, this Seattle Aquarium Dome photo post concerns the older Dome; it is visual context, not a source for ticket prices or admission policies. Do not interpret the Dome as another name for the Ocean Pavilion or as a free public attraction outside the ticketed Aquarium campus.

For a first visit, the booking decision is simple: select one regular timed-entry ticket rather than searching for separate Dome and Ocean Pavilion options.

What your ticket covers across the three-building campus

Think of the Seattle Aquarium as one waterfront attraction distributed across three buildings:

Building Location What to know
Pier 59 Downtown waterfront One of the two regular-ticket entrances
Pier 60 Connected to Pier 59 by a breezeway Contains the Underwater Dome
Ocean Pavilion Across the public plaza Separate building with the other regular-ticket entrance

Pier 59 and Pier 60 function as a connected pair because visitors can move between them through the breezeway. To reach the Ocean Pavilion, visitors cross the public plaza. That layout may influence where you begin, especially if you are coordinating your Aquarium visit with other waterfront stops or planning around wet weather.

The Ocean Pavilion expands the visit beyond the exhibits in the two pier buildings. Its featured experiences include tropical reef communities, sharks swimming overhead and a bowmouth guitarfish.

The practical distinction is therefore about location. If you want to see the Underwater Dome, include Pier 60 in your route. If you want the newer tropical exhibits, cross the plaza to the Ocean Pavilion. Your regular daytime admission gives you access to both.

How to buy the right timed-entry ticket

Start with the Aquarium’s live ticket page. Select a visit date, an available entry time and the appropriate ticket categories for your group. The supplied information does not establish authoritative current adult or youth prices, so use the configured order total rather than relying on prices quoted in older traveler reviews.

If the ticket summary initially displays $0.00, that does not mean daytime admission is free. It is an unconfigured order total shown before the required ticket selections have been completed. Continue through the date, time and ticket-category choices to see the applicable live total.

Advance online purchase is the most predictable option if you have a short Seattle itinerary or need a particular entry time. Walk-up tickets may be sold at Pier 59 or the Ocean Pavilion, but availability depends on remaining capacity. On-site purchases at the Ocean Pavilion require cashless payment.

Ticket method Best for Important detail
Advance online ticket Visitors who need predictable timing Select a date and timed entry before arriving
Walk-up ticket Flexible visitors Available only as capacity permits
Member reservation Aquarium members Reserve through the member portal
KCLS voucher Eligible library patrons Redeem at the Pier 59 admissions desk

Memberships, CityPASS products, community vouchers and library passes do not necessarily follow the same process as a regular online ticket. Check the instructions issued with your specific product before arriving.

Your arrival plan: entrance, QR code, and re-entry

Regular timed-ticket holders may start at either Pier 59 or the Ocean Pavilion. You do not need to begin at Pier 59 simply because Pier 60 and the Underwater Dome are on that side of the campus.

A practical visit flow is:

  1. Arrive for your reserved entry time and follow the terms shown on your ticket.
  2. Open the ticket on your phone or have a printed copy ready.
  3. Scan the QR code at either Pier 59 or the Ocean Pavilion.
  4. Explore the building where you started.
  5. Use the breezeway to move between Piers 59 and 60, or cross the public plaza to reach the Ocean Pavilion.
  6. Show or rescan the QR code when required at the other ticketed entrance.
  7. Keep the same ticket available for re-entry during that day’s visit.

Saving the QR code somewhere easy to reach can prevent delays at the second entrance. If one person holds the tickets for an entire party, the group should remain together when moving between entrances or share the appropriate tickets before separating.

Choose your starting entrance based on the rest of your waterfront route. Beginning at the Ocean Pavilion does not prevent you from visiting the Underwater Dome later, and beginning at Pier 59 does not require a separate Pavilion reservation.

Hours, family admission, and how long to allow

Published regular hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., with last entry at 5 p.m. Children age 3 and younger enter free, while youth ages 4–12 receive reduced pricing. Verify the schedule and admission details for your chosen date because holiday, event or operational hours may differ from the regular schedule (official visitor guidance).

For itinerary planning, allow roughly two to three hours. That estimate comes from Tripadvisor’s Seattle Aquarium overview, not from an Aquarium time requirement. A fast-moving visitor may finish sooner, while families, photographers and visitors who pause for activities or presentations may stay longer.

For a short Seattle trip, the Aquarium works best as the day’s main waterfront anchor rather than one item in a tightly packed sequence. Leave room before or after it instead of scheduling several attractions at fixed times. That flexibility also makes it easier to adjust your route if the weather changes.

The Aquarium itself spans multiple buildings, so account for the plaza crossing when deciding what to carry. Starting at the entrance closest to your preceding stop can reduce unnecessary backtracking without changing what your admission includes.

Special ticket and pass procedures

A King County Library System voucher covers general admission to Pier 59, Pier 60 and the Ocean Pavilion for up to four people age 4 or older. Children age 3 and younger enter free and do not require a voucher (KCLS Seattle Aquarium pass instructions).

KCLS visitors must begin at the Pier 59 admissions desk, not at the Ocean Pavilion entrance. Bring the printed or digital voucher and matching photo ID. Aquarium staff exchange the voucher for the next available timed-entry ticket, so the pass does not guarantee a particular entry time.

The KCLS voucher covers general admission but excludes special exhibits and separately ticketed events. Those exclusions apply specifically to the voucher terms and should not be used to infer what is or is not included with another ticket type.

Aquarium members should make an advance reservation through the member portal. Membership includes admission, but entry is not guaranteed without a reservation when capacity is limited.

CityPASS and other community-program ticket holders should follow the reservation or redemption instructions supplied with their pass. Some products require an advance timed reservation, while others must be redeemed through a designated process or entrance. Do not assume that a CityPASS, community voucher, library pass and regular timed ticket are interchangeable.

For regular daytime admission, reserve one timed ticket for the Aquarium campus, check the live price and hours for your date, and keep the QR code ready as you move between the pier buildings and the Ocean Pavilion.
